BMC INTRODUCES CARS WITH CROSSWISE ENGINES

Front overhead view of the Austin version of the radically new Austin 850 and Morris 850 twin cars reveals the revolutionary crosswise mounting of the front wheel drive, ohv, 4-cylinder, short stroke engine. The entire transmission is directly beneath the engine, with the gearbox in the engine sump. In addition to remarkable accessibility to all components for routine service, the entire engine may be removed from the car in a matter of twenty minutes. A common oil reservoir serves both engine and transmission with clutch isolated. The "across the nose" mounting improves power, traction and road stability. The new cars are currently being introduced in North America by over 1000 British Motor Corporation distributors and dealers. Their suggested retail price of less than $1300. At New York p.o.e. includes a 12 months' factory warranty.
