One of the most iconic 10" wheels of all time is the Mamba.
Designed & manufactured by John Thornton of Mamba Developments back in the mid 1960's.
The Mamba wheel was designed as a stylish & strong competitor for the much more expensive
minilite & "Rosepetal" type wheels of the period. Cast in LM5 alloy these were indeed
as strong & as light as the magnesium opposition. The Mamba wheel was available in
4.5, 5 & 6" sizes as standard, but could be cast in any size you required. The largest
I have seen were 10 x 10" used on a single seater Terrapin.
However, before the wheel was the Mamba Racing car, I recently unearthed a copy of
the original brochure for this home build single seater. I am afraid I have no further
information, but if you do, I would be very happy to hear from you.
