Halda
The taxi meter firm who became an essential part of 1960’s Rallying.

The Halda Watch Company was founded in 1887 by Henning Hammarlund in Svängsta, Blekinge in the south of Sweden. It quickly gained a reputation for making fine mechanical watches.

As the business developed they diversified into many different areas including mechanical taxi meters & the rally trip meters that we are interested in.

The most famous product produced by Halda was their “Twinmaster” which gave 2 adjustable tripmeters that were essential for accurate navigation in rallies & trials.

The biggest problem with all Halda’s products was the terrifically complicated nature of the mechanical innards.  This made them very expensive in the day.  So as soon as electronic alternatives were developed the halda mechanical meters went the way of all things.

Nowardays, if you are looking for a Twinmaster or Speedpilot to complete that Rally restoration, you will need very, very deep pockets indeed!
