ABOUT MK1.

MK1 Performance conversions was established in 1995 by Me, Mark Forster to help promote my love of the greatest small car of all time. I have always had more enthusiasm and old parts, than time and money to indulge my love of Minis.

I have driven, repaired, raced, rallied, tuned and otherwise tinkered with minis for over 20 years. Naturally, with having been around Minis for so long I have accumulated a heck of a lot of Mini related stuff. This site is dedicated to the idea of sharing information, parts and services with other early Mini owners everywhere, wherever possible free of charge.

WHY I RUN THIS SITE!

Since I have been running this site I have heard it said that I must have an agenda or a axe to grind, well I am sorry but for your information I DON'T! I have heard a lot of crap talked about Minis over the years usually by folks trying to pass old tat of as a genuine tuning part. Or some broken old piece of rubbish off as rare, on my site I try wherever possible to go back to original sources and reproduce them FREE OF CHARGE for the information and dare I say it education of fellow Mini fans. If in the meantime I manage to prevent a few crooks from selling "Genuine Downton Heads" that were ground yesterday or "Speedwell badges" that don't even look like the genuine article then all well and good! I will continue to add to this site and wherever possible increase the scope and depth of material available. If you enjoy it, drop me an e-mail to info@mk1-performance-conversions.co.uk and tell me about your car, even better if you have information that you think other Mini fans would be interested in then I would be more than happy to host it. There, I guess I can get off my soapbox now, so back to Minis.

A BIT ABOUT THE BMC MINI RANGE OF CARS

When the Mini was first introduced in 1959, it was not generally accepted by the public, it was judged to be far too revolutionary, some said it looked futuristic, most just said it looked stupid!

40 years on we have a better view. Between 1959 & 2001 there were over 5,300,000 Minis sold worldwide, at the height of production there were at least 12 factories around the world manufacturing these little marvels and there wasn't a continent on earth where you couldn't buy one. The Minis unique selling point was always difficult to place, it was technically advanced, it was cute, it was highly competitive in Motor Sport, it was also very safe, but all these points don't do this little car justice. If you have never owned or driven a Mini it is a feeling that you will just not understand, I feel sorry for you.

The most startling thing about the Mini was the way this tiny, underpowered metal box became one of the most successful "Sports Cars" of all time. In this web site, I will try and give a newcomer an insight into these fantastic little cars, while at the same time attempting to give the well versed enthusiast a few meaty "Tidbits" to get their teeth into. If you have any questions, queries or observations, if you are looking for a rare or unusual part, drop me a line, I may just be able to help.
